Cooking Does Not Have To Be As Hard As You Think

You've probably watched at least one celebrity chef on television and thought, “Hey, I can do that!” Well, until the TV network comes knocking, you can always use your own kitchen as a stage to create unforgettable meals. Whether you are new at cooking or an old pro, you can always use some cooking tips. Here are a few to get you started.

Vegans and lactose-intolerant people looking to replace cheese in a recipe can try nutritional yeast. Nutritional yeast comes in flakes and powder, and has a nutty, savory texture. This makes it ideal for a variety of recipes, and it can be manipulated any way you need it to be used. It's an excellent substitute for tangy dairy products!

Vegetables

When cutting vegetables or meat it's very important to have sharp, high quality knives. This will help you to get the look and evenly cooked meal that you desire. If you use dull, low quality knives, instead of cutting your food, they will rip it which can cause uneven cooking and a not so appetizing looking meal.

Meats

One of the things that you will need to realize when you are making meats or fish is that you need to spread your seasoning evenly. Adding too much seasoning in one area of your food can reduce the flavor or lead to a tangy taste that will reduce the quality of your meal.

Rice

When cooking on a budget, make Mexican meals your friends. Tortillas, beans, rice, and onions are inexpensive and filling, and can serve as the foundation for a variety of meals, including tacos, enchiladas, and salads. You can also use whichever meats are most inexpensive, plus veggies like tomatoes, avocados, corn, and peppers.

Potato

If you are out of bread crumbs you can try these simple substitutions in your recipe: cracker crumbs, matzo, crushed cornflakes, grounds oats, or even potato chips. Simply substitute an equal amount of the replacement food for the bread crumbs. You can also make fresh bread crumbs by finely chopping four slices of bread per cup you need.

Bacon

For a make-ahead, grab-and-go breakfast, try breakfast burritos. On Sunday night cook up a pan of scrambled eggs and bacon. Use whole-wheat tortillas and fill them with the eggs, bacon, and top with cheese. Wrap in foil and refrigerate them and you will have breakfast ready for the whole family through Wednesday!

Cooking can be great fun and a chance for you to show off. Make sure to keep these tips in mind to add to your cooking a bit, and to enhance the skills you already have. And who knows, maybe one day you'll be the celebrity chef on a TV network!
