Low Carb Chai Tea

Chai tea or Masala chai (literally “mixed-spice tea”) is a beverage from India made by brewing tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs. Many Western commercial preparations use non-traditional ingredients such as vanilla, relegating the traditional masala spices to a relatively minor role. (Wikipedia)

 

Serves: Six-Eight
Prep Time: As long as it takes to boil water
Effort: Easy

 

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups water 1/2 cup heavy cream (unsweetened)
  • 1 scoop Atkins vanilla shake mix
  • 4 decaffinated tea bags
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 3/4 tsp. nutmeg 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

 

How to Prepare:

  • Mix shake mix with 1 cup of water and set aside.
  • In a saucepan/pot, mix all other ingredients, and bring to a boil.
  • Once mixture has come to a FULL boil, turn the heat off and briskly mix in the shake mix/water.
  • Cover with a lid and let steep for 5 mins. Make sure that you strain this before drinking, the spices don't melt.
  • You can adjust the spices to taste. And include other spices, such as anise, cardemom, and lemon or orange zest.

Cinnamon Tea

Cinnamon bark is widely used as a spice. It is principally employed in cookery as a condiment and flavouring material. It is also used in many dessert recipes, such as apple pie, doughnuts, and cinnamon buns as well as spicy candies and tea.

A 2012 study suggested that cinnamon supplementation is able to significantly improve blood glucose control in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes. (Wikipedia)

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz. of water
  • decaf coffee crystals
  • cinnamon

How to Prepare:

  • Heat 8 oz. of water.
  • Add desired amount of cinnamon.
  • Then add a sprinkle of decaf coffee crystals

Lemonade Iced Tea

Iced tea is a form of cold tea, usually served in a glass with ice. It may or may not be sweetened. Iced tea is also a popular packaged drink. It can be mixed with flavored syrup, with common flavors including lemon, peach, raspberry, lime, passion fruit, strawberry and cherry.  (Wikipedia)

Effort: Easy

 

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 10 regular or decaf tea bags
  • 1 gallon of water
  • 1 packet of unsweetened lemonade Kool-Aid (or flavor of your choice)
  • sweetener of choice to taste

How to Prepare:

  • Brew up a gallon of tea.
  • Add the Kool-Aid & sweetener.
  • Serve iced.

 

Recommended:  Kool-Aid flavors such as orange & tropical punch taste good.

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea is a tisane (infusion) of peppermint, Mentha piperita. It is sometimes called mint tea. It is naturally caffeine-free. A tea made from blending peppermint and spearmint leaves is referred to as doublemint tea. (Wikipedia)

This recipe has no carbohydrates and is a great drink on a cold winter night!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Peppermint  Tea bag
  • 1-2 Tbl. Atkins Chocolate syrup (to taste)
  • 1-2 Packet(s) Artifical Sweetner (to taste)

 

How to Prepare:

  • Boil the water. Place tea bag in boiled water and steep for a minute or two.
  • Add Chocolate syrup and sweetener to taste.

Whipped Tea

  • 1 cup any flavor de-caf tea
  • 1 pack splenda
  • 1 cup heavy cream

How to Prepare:

  • Make some tea and let it cool
  • In 1 cup of tea, add splenda.
  • Whip cream until peaks form and slowly add the tea.
