How to Make Homemade Fruit and Vegetable Juices

1. You'll need an inexpensive juice machine.

2. All fruits and vegetables should be juiced raw.

3. Small seeded fruit, such as watermelon and pears, may be juiced with their seeds with the exception of papaya and apple seeds. Orange and grapefruit seeds might impart a bitter taste to your juice. Remove the large pits from fruits like peaches and nectarines, etc.

4. Peel all fruits and vegetables that are not organically grown because the peel is where most of the chemical residues can be found. While most skins of organically grown fruits and vegetables may be left on, with the exception of waxed produce, the skins of pineapples, kiwis, oranges, grapefruits and papaya should be removed.

5. Choose fresh ripe produce. Rubbery vegetables, bruised fruit, wilted greens and over or under-ripe fruits will produce juices that are neither tasty nor healthful.

6. Cut the fruits or vegetables into pieces that will fit into the mouth of your juice machine. Turn the juice machine on and push the pieces through the mouth of the juicer. As you juice, pulp will collect in a large receptacle. If you don't clean the pulp out right away, it will develop a sour odor and tiny gnats and fruit flies may appear after 8 to 10 hours.

7. It is best to drink freshly made juices within one day.

GRILLED CHEESE

Sandwiches can be made without a pan. You may use a buddy burner if you have one or wrap the prepared sandwich in foil and place just above the coals (cooks real fast). To make it a more complete meal add tomatoes, onions and cold cuts or any combination of your choice before cooking.

KEBOBS

Kebobs of all sorts are easy to make and require no pans. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water to slow down the burning and make sure you can cook without holding by hand over the fire; if using metal ones make sure each person has a good glove to hold it with or there is a proper handle on it.

Make kebobs with wieners, smokies, sausage or meatballs. Pre-cook chicken, turkey, ham or any other meat cubes. Use a variety of veggies such as peppers, canned taters, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. As it is cooking, brush with barbecue sauce or teriyaki sauce if so desired.

RICE

Rice cooked in a sleeping bag. Take instant rice in 2 heavy duty zip lock bags. Add slightly less than normal amount of boiling water, (it must be at a full boil), add some raisins, nuts or some cinnamon and sugar, or whatever other flavoring you desire. Zip it up tight and place in a sleeping bag. The rice will cook in about 20 minutes. Once the rice is done, you can add cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins and nuts to make it a dessert or snack; or you can use it as a side dish by adding butter, soy sauce or canned gravy.

BREAD

Add grated cheddar or Parmesan cheese to butter, spread on bread slices (french or Italian loaves sliced thick work best) wrap in foil and put on coals or on a grate above the coals.

HOT DOGS

Hot dogs are always popular but if you are tired of the usual roasts,  try wrapping them in biscuit wraps and cooking them on a stick or wrap very loosely in foil and place on grate above fire for 15 to 30 minutes (time will depend on the heat of the fire and the weather. To make these more fun add cheese, onions, mustard, ketchup, pickles, bacon bits, etc. before wrapping.  If using a stick, only add a little bit or the wrap will rip.

SOUPS

To tomato soup, add croutons, bacon bits, cheese cubes, sliced sausage; to vegetable soups ad precooked ground beef, wienies, cheese cubes; to noodle soups, add croutons, Parmesan cheese, cubes of precooked beef or chicken. Serve with crackers or cheese bread.

Regain Control Of Your Kitchen With These Cooking Tips

Every cook loves to learn new things about cooking. The same can be said about novice cooks. Cooking can be a chore sometimes, but more often, it can just be an enjoyable experience which culminates in a delicious meal. This article can add to your knowledge and joy of cooking.

Taste your food as you go along. One of the biggest mistakes a cook can make is to not taste their own food! You should know how it tastes before you serve it to your guests. If you taste it frequently as you go along, you will be able to correct any missteps that occur before there is too much damage to the dish.

Vegetables

If you are going on a picnic, put lettuce and other vegetables in separate containers from condiments. Condiments are not to make sandwiches soggy, so by separating them, you are ensuring your sandwich will taste fresh. Also, do not place any food items next to drinks inside of the basket.

Meats

You should separate your meat into usable portions before you freeze it. You can separate your meat and store the portions in sandwich bags. You can then place the sandwich bags inside of freezer bags. This will give you that ability to have your meats perfectly portioned and to be able to use the freezer bags over and over again.

Rice

If you are out of corn starch and need a thickener, you can get the same results from these substitutions. You can use an equal amount of potato starch, rice starch, or arrowroot; or you can use double the amount of all-purpose flour or instant tapioca.

Potato

If you have added too much salt to your soup, just add some celery or a potato. To reduce the saltiness of the liquid, add large slices of celery or thick chunks of potato. Taste every five minutes, and remove once they have soaked up the excess salt from the broth.

Bacon

For a make-ahead, grab-and-go breakfast, try breakfast burritos. On Sunday night cook up a pan of scrambled eggs and bacon. Use whole-wheat tortillas and fill them with the eggs, bacon, and top with cheese. Wrap in foil and refrigerate them and you will have breakfast ready for the whole family through Wednesday!

As stated at the beginning of the article, cooking is a joy whether you are experienced or just beginning. A good cook is always learning new things and experimenting. By reading this article and adding to your repertoire of cooking skills, you also add to your enjoyment of a meal that is well done.

Love Cooking? With These Tips You’ll Love It Even More

For some people, cooking is a fun hobby. For others, cooking is a necessity. No matter what your specific situation is, learning more about cooking is what will make you become a better cook. The following article is going to provide you with this important information. Use it to your advantage.

When cooking with a sauté pan, turn the handle of it in the opposite direction of you. Keeping the handle facing you increases the chance of bumping into and spilling your food. This is also a safety concern because you can burn yourself if the pan tips or falls over.

Vegetables

Ice water can save the color of your vegetables. Dull washed out vegetables do not look as appealing to eat. If you want bright and vibrant vegetables, then you should plunge them into ice water after blanching them. Vibrantly colored vegetables look much more appetizing in salads and pasta dishes.

Meats

You may or may not have heard of schmaltz, but it is a very useful component when cooking. Schmaltz, otherwise known as chicken fat, is very rich. The flavor of schmaltz is deeper than duck fat and can be used for many things, such as cooking meats or poaching fish.

Rice

Make red beans, sausage and rice the easy way. Brown your sausage in a skillet. Add a can of red beans, liquid included, and then add enough instant rice to soak up the juices. Once the sausage is fully cooked turn off the heat and let the mixture simmer. It is a filling, low-cost meal that you can prepare in minutes.

Potato

If you are unsure of your boiling potatoes are done it would help if you stuck them with a knife. If the potato comes out of the water stuck on the knife then it means that they are not ready yet, but if they slide off easily then they are done.

Bacon

Simple techniques to reduce the salt in bacon too make it healthier. Cooking with bacon is an excellent way to season your food, but if you want to watch your salt intake it can be hard using bacon as a seasoning. Blanching the bacon in boiling water for one minute will reduce the salt in the bacon.

As was stated above, everyone cooks for different reasons. However, no matter what reason you may have, it is crucial that you know everything there is to know about cooking. Use this information to improve your cooking skills. Who knows, maybe you will even want to become a chef with this information.

Follow These Tips To Cook Like A Master Chef

Many people think that they “can't” cook. They think that trying to make anything more complicated than a sandwich or macaroni and cheese will end in failure. However, there are many easy ways to make delicious and healthy meals. In this article, you'll learn how to cook food that you'll be proud to eat.

Vegetables

If you are wondering what to do with leftover vegetables, consider using the vegetables in a salad. Simply cut the vegetables into strips and toss with greens and add salad dressing. To make a chef's salad, just add your leftover meat and add cheese. These salads are easy to make, and you can enjoy them within minutes.

Meats

You may or may not have heard of schmaltz, but it is a very useful component when cooking. Schmaltz, otherwise known as chicken fat, is very rich. The flavor of schmaltz is deeper than duck fat and can be used for many things, such as cooking meats or poaching fish.

Rice

If you are out of corn starch and need a thickener, you can get the same results from these substitutions. You can use an equal amount of potato starch, rice starch, or arrowroot; or you can use double the amount of all-purpose flour or instant tapioca.

Potato

Selecting a good potato for baking is easy once you know the right tips! Be sure to select a potato like a russet or Idaho since they have a higher starch content and will give you a fluffier potato when baked. Choose smooth-skinned potatoes without wrinkles or soft spots. When you bring your potatoes home, don't put them in the refrigerator. Instead, place them in a bin in a cool, dark spot in your home. They taste best when used within 2-3 weeks after purchase.

Bacon

Learn to enjoy brussels sprouts. Not many people enjoy brussels sprouts if they are cooked in the traditional manner of boiling them. Sprouts can be delicious if you try different methods of cooking, such as roasting them with carrots and parsnips for a delicious side dish. They are delicious if pan-fried with bacon. These cooking methods give them a nutty flavor. Always choose small brussels sprouts, as the larger ones tend to be very bitter.

Cooking isn't as hard as it may seem. If you take the time to learn how to cook, making great meals can be easy. Before you plan your next meal, take a look at the advice offered in this article. You may wind up discovering that you're ready to cook things you never thought you'd be able to handle.
